Wellness Retreat Homes: The Future of Healthy Living Starts at Home
We’re combining luxury custom homebuilding with a more intentional approach to healthy living and long-term comfort.
Over the last few years, we’ve noticed something interesting when talking with homeowners. People are thinking differently about what they want from their homes. It’s not just about square footage anymore. Or even just luxury finishes. More families are asking questions like:
Will this home still work for us 10 years from now?
Does this space actually feel peaceful?
How can a home support a healthier lifestyle?
That shift in thinking is part of what inspired a new concept we’re working on at Bella Villa called the Wellness Retreat. This upcoming spec home is centered around the idea that your home should help you live well, not just look good.
What Does “Wellness Home” Actually Mean?
For some homeowners, wellness means creating a calmer environment. Less noise. More natural light. Better connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. For others, it’s about healthier materials, cleaner air, or having spaces that encourage movement and relaxation.
We’ve been researching a lot of these ideas while designing our newest home, and it’s been exciting to think beyond the traditional floorplan approach.
Instead of asking:
“How many rooms can we fit?”
We started asking:
“How will people actually feel living here every day?”
That changes the design process quite a bit.
Designing a Home That Lives With You
One thing we keep coming back to is the idea that homes should evolve with the people living in them.
A well-designed home should feel comfortable now, but it should also continue working as life changes.
That might mean:
Main floor living
Wider walkways and open spaces
Better natural lighting
Flexible rooms that can adapt over time
Spaces designed for gathering, relaxing, or even unplugging
We’re also seeing more interest in outdoor living spaces that feel private and restorative rather than just decorative. People want homes that help reduce stress, support better routines, and simply make everyday life easier.
Healthy Living Starts at Home
There’s been a lot more conversation recently around wellness-focused design, and it makes sense.
Home is where people spend most of their time. It affects sleep, stress levels, productivity, and overall comfort more than most people realize. Simple things like airflow, natural light, quiet spaces, and thoughtful layouts can completely change how a home feels.
That doesn’t mean a wellness home has to feel clinical or overly modern either. For us, it’s still about warmth, craftsmanship, and creating luxury homes that feel inviting and livable.
Features We’re Focusing on in the Wellness Retreat Home
As we’ve been developing this new concept, we’ve spent a lot of time thinking about the small details that actually affect how a home feels day to day. Some of those features include:
More Natural Light and Open Living Spaces
One thing we noticed early in the design process is how much natural light can change a home's mood. Bright, open spaces simply feel better to spend time in. That’s why this home was designed with larger windows, open gathering spaces, and layouts that bring in more sunlight throughout the day.
Better Indoor Air Quality
People are paying more attention to what goes into their homes now, and for good reason. Things like ventilation, air circulation, and even building materials can affect overall comfort. We’ve been exploring healthier material options and design choices to improve indoor air quality and create a fresher living environment.
Spaces That Feel Calm and Relaxing
Life is busy enough already. Home should feel like a place where you can slow down a little. We’ve talked a lot about creating spaces that feel peaceful without making them overly formal. Comfortable outdoor areas, quiet corners, spa-like bathrooms, and better flow throughout the home all contribute to that.
Layouts That Encourage Everyday Living
A well-designed home should make daily life easier. We’re thinking about how people naturally move through a space, where families gather, and how rooms can stay flexible over time. Whether it’s space for fitness, working from home, or simply spending more time outdoors, functionality matters just as much as appearance.
Designing for the Future
Another important part of this concept is long-term livability. More homeowners want homes that can adapt with them over time, rather than needing to move later. Features like main-level living, wider walkways, and flexible spaces can make a home feel more comfortable for years to come.
Looking Ahead at Bella Villa Builders
This Wellness Retreat concept is opening the door to some exciting new ideas for our team.
We’re combining luxury custom homebuilding with a more intentional approach to healthy living and long-term comfort. It’s a direction we’re really passionate about, and we think many homeowners are starting to look for it too.
A home should support your lifestyle, not work against it.
We’re looking forward to sharing more as this new spec home comes together and showing how wellness-focused design can still feel timeless, comfortable, and beautifully built.
If you’re interested in building a custom home designed around the way you actually want to live, Bella Villa Builders would love to start that conversation.
